New open call for the international residency program in Israel!
LowRes Jerusalem
"LowRes Jerusalem is part of the international residency program at the Art Cube Artists’ Studios, Jerusalem. It offers a one-month residency in Jerusalem, with travel and accommodation fully funded. The resident will also receive a $1,000 dollars artist fee.
LowRes Jerusalem invites artists who explore social, political and economical conflicts to reflect upon their environment in a critical manner during their temporary residence in Jerusalem. The program’s name plays on the concept of “low-residency”, which describes short-term stays (usually associated with education programs), in connection to “low-resolution” as a description of image quality. “Low resolution” may also allude to a certain commitment: What might a low form of artistic conflict resolution in Jerusalem be, for that matter?
It is tempting to think of artists participating in contemporary residency programs in the same terms in which Steyerl describes poor images, “dragged around the globe as commodities”, pressured towards site-specificity but often finding themselves reproducing variations on the same work The short stays on residencies usually do not allow for in-depth understanding of a foreign place, and yet the current socially- or politically-engaged artist seems to be expected to instantly become a superhero of sorts, helping communities in distress, or at least creating meaningful artistic commentary about them. In addition, the translation of subtle art processes engaging local communities are sometimes “lost in translation” when they need to be communicated to a wider audience, and turn into generic digital noise.
Within these contradictory conditions, LowRes Jerusalem invites artists who explore social, political and economical conflicts to reflect upon their environment in a critical manner during their temporary residence in Jerusalem.
We particularly encourage applications by artists from countries with little funding opportunities, but the residency is not in any way limited by nationality. We know that you are all transnational – if not in practice, then in your hearts.
Additional Details and How to Apply:
Application deadline: February 15th, 2016
Application through the online form which will be available on our website starting January 25th-

Izrael Állam Nagykövetsége szívből gratulál Nemes Jeles Lászlónak, hogy Saul fia című filmjével elnyerte a Golden Globe-díjat a legjobb idegen nyelvű film kategóriában

Fontos a Golden Globe-díj, mert a világ figyelmét jelenti – mondta
az MTI-nek Nemes Jeles László Los Angelesből, miután az általa rendezett Saul
fia elnyerte a Hollywoodban akkreditált külföldi tudósítók szövetségének
elismerését a legjobb idegen nyelvű film kategóriában.
A rendező, aki stábjának, a producereknek, a Magyar Nemzeti Filmalapnak és a
film amerikai forgalmazójának is köszönetet mondott a Golden Globe-ceremónia
A rendező
MTI-nek.
"Úgy gondoljuk, hogy a díjjal a magyar filmművészet ismét a világ figyelmének
középpontjába került. Nagyon boldogok vagyunk" - tette hozzá.
A Laokoon Filmgroup gyártásában készült alkotás vezető producere Sipos Gábor és Rajna Gábor, főszereplője Röhrig Géza.
A Saul fiát az elmúlt időszakban számos tekintélyes amerikai filmes szervezet díjazta. A nagy presztízsű National Board of Review of Motion Pictures (NBR), a Los Angeles-i, a New York-i, a bostoni és a washingtoni filmkritikusok is az év legjobb külföldi filmjének szavazták meg Nemes Jeles László első mozifilmjét azután, hogy a cannes-i filmfesztiválon a zsűri Nagydíja mellett három másikat is elnyert.
A magyar film esélyes arra, hogy jelöljék Hollywood legrangosabb elismerésére, az Oscar-díjra. Az amerikai filmakadémia csütörtökön ismerteti a jelölteket.

Call for participation from Israel! AQB Artist-in-Residence Program in Budapest
The Hungarian capital’s rich cultural scene and the large AQB properties near the river Danube provide a unique setting to the residency programme. They create an atmosphere in which artists can concentrate on their own work, while they can also integrate into Hungary’s contemporary art scene.
Art Quarter Budapest’s artist-in-residence programme is a meeting point for international and local artists. Each participant lives and works separately in his/her apartment and studio, while co-operation is promoted by means of a well-organised programme and public spaces.
The artist-in-residence programme is established in co-operation with Videospace Budapest, a Hungarian art organisation with wide experience in contemporary art on international level.
What do they offer?
Studios at the AQB venues serve for living and working. The 25-75 m2 apartments are on five levels of an old factory building, with elevator and a bathroom on each floor. Besides free internet, participants of the programme can use the buildings and public spaces across the entire AQB complex.
They offer regular consultations and organised programmes to ensure contact with the capital’s art scene. They help obtain raw materials and equipment, and assist in establishing professional connections.
Programmes
- Weekly consultations with residency holders and the representatives of AQB
- Assistence of AQB personnel trhough the entire duration of the programme
- Tours of Budapest and the surrounding towns and places of interest
- Frequent meetings and lectures with curators and art critics
- Public lectures by the residents
- Exhibitions in the AQB for each resident
- Mediation in organising exhibitions and presentations in galleries and other institutions in Budapest
Application guidelines
Artists’ applications are welcome from all countries in the world, regardless of the medium they use (painting, sculpture, media art, installation, graphic arts, etc.). There is no age limit. A basic knowledge of English, open-mindedness and good communications skills are welcome.
The residency programme offers broad possibilities for artists at any stage of their career – for established artists as well as for those at the beginning of their career, and also for students. Co-operation among artists of various origins, backgrounds and interests can be an important source of inspiration. Groups will be formed with compatibility of interests taken into consideration.
Conditions
AQB is open for AQB scholarship holders as well as for scholarship holders of other institutions.
AQB scholarship holders
In co-operation with sponsors, international foundations and cultural institutions, AQB offers a limited number of scholarships, covering all the costs of the residency.
